Karnataka offers a wide variety of tourism options. From coastal areas to misty mountains and from hustle-bustle of city life to peaceful retreats, Karnataka has a lot to offer.

Following is a list of primary regions in Karnataka:

  1. North-Western Karnataka  - Northern and north-western parts of Karnataka which has some hilly area with dense forests and waterfalls as well as dry and arid regions of Karnataka
  2. Southern and Central Karnataka (Bangalore and around) - Primarily industrial.
  3. Karavali (Coastal region of Karnataka including the Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada) - Coastal, of course with specialized cuisine and unique features
  4. Kodagu/Coorg (The coffee estates) - Hilly area, dense forests.

Uttara Kannada and North Karnataka are not one and the same. Uttara Kannada is Northern part of Coastal Karnataka, whereas North Karnataka consists of Districts of Bidar, Gulbarga, Bijapur, Hubli, Gadag, Dharwad, Raichur and parts of Bellary.
Bangalore is South Karnataka and not central.
It is not just Karavali that has different dialect of Kannada. Dialect in Karnataka changes every 200 Km.
