check out Kumarakom bird sanctuary. Take a local country boat and ask the person to take you inside the sanctuary on the boat. There are tiny waterways criss crossing the sanctuary which are accessible only on the country boat (small row boat)

If you are staying in a resort or a homestay, it would be totally worth it to take a small walk in the lanes of Kumarakom. Local Thattukadas or small shops are an experience in itself, where they serve you coffee, tea and local snacks.

Kumarakom is more idyllic with expensive resorts. Allepy is more buzzing with medium to expensive resorts. If you are in Cochin, Allepy will be near.
